The award winning Swedish company Kinnarps (pronounced “Shin-arps”) has chosen six more regional locations for the UK rollout of its complete workspace service to smaller and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). To celebrate, the new teams plan to throw open their doors and treat local businesses to some traditional Scandinavian hospitality.
In the last week of November, the Kinnarps local business centres, which has just opened in Aberdeen, Manchester and Leeds will hold an open day complete with a ‘smorgasbord’ of Swedish food and drink.
Ray Phelan, Kinnarps Aberdeen’s Head of Region, North, explains the importance of its Swedish heritage in defining Kinnarps’ approach:
“Kinnarps is a family-run business, founded in Sweden in 1942. It has developed into one of the largest suppliers of office and other workspace furniture and design solutions in Europe and now has a presence in 36 countries Worldwide, yet the core values of the company still permeate everything we do.”
“We are completely committed to offering our customers incomparable service and products right through the process, from sourcing sustainable raw materials, to designing and building the furniture in our own factories, and from working with the customer to develop their perfect work space, to delivering, installing and servicing it, using our own locally based team.”
“The Kinnarps philosophy isn’t just about selling desks and chairs. It’s about looking at the practical needs of an organisation and then coming up with a workspace which functions perfectly, maximises space and helps to attract, retain and inspire the best possible workforce. It’s a very Scandinavian mindset to insure that workers’ well-being and comfort is considered alongside optimising the effectiveness of organisations and it’s one that has delivered remarkable results for our previous clients. After all, we do spend the majority of our waking hours in the workplace and an inspiring environment can only make those hours more pleasant and productive”
He continues: “Add to that the potential cost to businesses of problems like bad backs and work-related RSI (alone estimated by a recent Microsoft report* to be costing £300m annually in lost working hours) and there is a very compelling argument for companies to look seriously at the user-friendliness of their workspaces.”
Kinnarps already has a strong customer base among larger private and public sector organisations in the UK, including Legal & General, The Department of Health and its recent appointment as a preferred supplier to The Office of Government Commerce.
The company has picked up numerous accolades, which reflect its core values and commitment to helping organisations to be better at work, including: FX and Red Dot Design awards for product design, the Balanced Scorecard Hall of Fame award and Competence Company of the Year (Sweden) for business systems. Kinnarps has also recently been chosen as the furniture supplier by IUCN, the world's largest environmental organisation, for their new building project.
Kinnarps’ expansion, which includes the new local business centres, is part of a strategy to serve local SME markets and bring complete working environment solutions, previously only available to larger organisations, to smaller enterprises throughout the UK.
The new offices showcase Kinnarps ‘Better at Work’ philosophy with innovative ideas for all types of working environment, from small desks to open-plan teamwork areas, café and break spaces to executive and conference furniture.
