Furniture and re-use initiative launched at Slough Trading Estate to benefit both business and local communities

Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East (ACSABE) launched its new initiative - the furniture and re-use centre - at Banbury Avenue, Slough Trading Estate with the support of Kinnarps on Tuesday 24 February at 11.30am.

The centre, which was officially opened by BBC Radio presenter and TV personality Maggie Philbin, is part of an exciting new initiative providing a valuable service to both the corporate and local community.  Local businesses and residents are urged to donate good quality unwanted items such as furniture (both domestic and commercial), bicycles, toys, computers and electrical goods.  These goods, once checked by a fully qualified technician, will then be available for purchase.

The project will be of particular benefit to local community groups and to families on lower incomes, who need quality goods at reasonable prices.  The money raised from the sale of the items will be channelled back into the community, providing vital services for older people throughout the community of Slough and Berkshire East.

The project will be run by ACSABE with the support of SEGRO, which has helped the charity set up the Centre on the Slough Trading Estate and Kinnarps, which sponsored the grand opening and is funding the furniture and re-use centre’s collection and delivery van. Kinnarps is headquartered in Slough and has recently opened a local showroom and business center.

Marc Bird, Head of Marketing for Kinnarps UK said: ‘We are very excited to be working with ACSABE on this service, particularly because it reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility and we will be encouraging our clients to donate their old office furniture to the Centre.”

Tracey Morgan, Chief Executive of Age Concern added: “This will provide an important facility for the local community to re-use those unwanted goods.  As a charity, ACSABE has to generate around 50% of its income from fundraising and trading activity – this kind of project allows us to be creative about how we raise funds in financially challenging times, and helps to ensure we can keep delivering vital services to older local people.”

Contributions can be delivered directly to the furniture warehouse at 1 Banbury Avenue, Slough Trading Estate.  A free collection service is also available for larger items of usable quality.
